The strategic value of Human Resources Management (HRM) continues to receive increasing recognition as a key source of corporate sustainability and innovation. As a pioneer institution offering postgraduate programmes in HRM, Hong Kong Baptist University is renowned for its commitment to providing high-quality education and promoting life-long learning. To cultivate the HR leaders of tomorrow, the Department of Management has curated the Master of Science in Strategic Human Resources Management (MScSHRM) programme.
The MScSHRM programme aims to transform HR professionals into strategic partners and business leaders. It is designed to provide HR professionals with advanced management knowledge, business acumen, HR competencies, and enhanced sensitivity towards local and global HR issues and challenges.
Offered on a two-year part-time basis with classes on weekends, students are required to complete 30 credit units to graduate – 27 credits and 3 credits for core courses and elective courses respectively – with the curriculum revolving around three core elements: strategies, globalisation, and ethics.
MScSHRM is geared to solve real-life problems that involve taking action, developing practical and creative strategies to deal with pressing issues in the HR field. Courses offered span from understanding workplace behaviour, mastering HR strategic processes for talent management, developing governance capabilities and ethical cultures within organisations, to conducting HR inquiries using analytics and consultancy skills.
Led by internationally-renowned HRM experts, many of whom have written outstanding books, and have offered consulting services and executive training programmes to multinational and local companies, the programme seeks to equip students with a thorough understanding of strategic and global management as they pertain to human resource management. They will also be trained in designing ethical practices that clarify behavioural and professional standards, thereby creating an organisational culture that upholds high corporate governance standards.
MScSHRM programme is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and is recognised as equivalent to CIPD Level 7 Advanced Diploma in Human Recourses Management. Upon graduation, the Student Membership will be advanced to Associate Membership, which paths the way for becoming a Chartered Member (MCIPD) and Chartered Fellow (FCIPD).
